**************************************************************

Lake Russell is one of South Carolina's most popular fishing lakes. Coves with excellent fishing habitats provide an abundance of bass, bluegill, crappie, catfish and more. With its 26,650 acres of water recreation, Lake Russell is also ideal for sailing, water skiing and power boating.

Calhoun Falls State Park is located on Lake Russell in northwest South Carolina, near Abbeville and the Georgia border. From the town of Calhoun Falls, take SC Highway 81 north off SC Highway 72, at the intersection in Calhoun Falls. Proceed approximately 1 mile and the park will be on the left.

The park has a campground with 86 sites. 44 sites are water front, while the remaining sites are within walking distance of the lake. A limited number of sites may be reserved, while remaining sites are rented on a first-come, first-serve basis. Four sites may be reserved exclusively for the handicapped. Lake Russell offers fishing for bass, crappie, bream, walleye, stripers and catfish. Marina and boat ramp services are available. There is a park store & tackle shop open year-round. Other amenities include: picnic shelters, playground, basketball and tennis courts.

Recreation - Calhoun State Park offers camping, cabin rental, fishing, picnicking, hiking, a playground, tennis courts and a basketball court.

Climate - South Carolina generally has a temperate climate, with cool winters and warm, humid summers. Snow and freezing temperatures are possible in the winter at the higher elevations. Thunderstorms are possible throughout the year but most common in the spring and summer. Tropical storms occasionally strike the coast during the hurricane season.
