Last December Tom Frederick and Carroll Burr from Sumter, S. C. caught this monster Mississippi Catfish on a trout line near Jack's Creek.  Stanley Scott, owner of Jack's Creek, said that the men brought the monster cat in to weigh but was unable to get an accurate weight because the flathead was so big. Tom Frederick in the picture with the catfish is 5'8'', 160 lbs. The fish was 2 ft across. Because the fish was caught on a trout line they didn't pursue measurements or weight.

" It is common knowledge," Scott said," that this fish is the biggest landed in the history of the lakes."

Scott explained that the fishing on the lakes have gone through transitions over the years- but that the fishing has never been better. "It's evident by the catches at the fishing tournaments," he said.

The record fish caught by Jessica Preston of Gilbert in the Diversion Canal on May 11,2001 was 51 inches long. The monster Mississippi Cat was over a foot longer than the record fish.
