  Golf Gifts for the Holidays

What kind of golf gifts will that special golfer in your life be wishing for this holiday season? Getting them useful and stylish accessories is a great way to say “I love you.” High quality golf travel bags are an invaluable investment for golfer planning a trip, and the handy golf technology from Suunto can take strokes off their game in no time.

(PRWEB) November 22, 2004 -- With so many golfers planning their trips to exotic golf locations, protecting their golf clubs from the negligence of underpaid airline baggage handlers is a must. You need proper protection. Look no further than GolfTravelBags.com (http://www.golftravelbags.com). GolfTravelBags.com features a wide selection of sturdy and dependable golf travel bags guaranteed to get your golf clubs to your destination in safety and style, making them great golf gifts.

The Club Glove Last Bag (http://www.golftravelbags.com/clubglove-last-bag.htm) is the most popular golf travel bag on tour – it’s used by more touring professionals on the PGA, Champions, and LPGA tours than any other product in golf. The Last Bag is a soft case travel bag with wheels, and comes in two sizes. And if you like the Last Bag, check out the handy Club Glove Stiff Arm (http://www.golftravelbags.com/clubglove-stiff-arm.htm) this popular accessory protects the clubs in your soft case from damage caused by being dropped on the heads.

If it’s a hard case you’re after for maximum protection, check out the SKB Staff Shaped Case (http://www.golftravelbags.com/skb-shaped-staff-case.htm). The SKB Shaped Staff Case is contoured to fit any size staff bag. It's a highly durable hard case with an aluminum valance for a reliable “tongue and groove” closure, and a neoprene “o-ring” gasket for keeping out harmful moisture. The heavy-duty, die-cast locking latches are engineered for a lifetime of easy smooth service, and the case material is black all the way through, making scratches invisible.

If it’s a hybrid golf travel case you’re looking for, the innovative Bag Boy Hybrid SE (http://www.golftravelbags.com/bagboy-hybrid-se.htm) has been designed for use as both a golf bag and a travel cover - it makes traveling with your golf equipment simple and easy - you eliminate a piece of luggage, while still providing your clubs with a tremendous amount of protection. This bag has a crush-proof top for total club head protection, and people seem to love the stylish look when on the course. Also features in-line skate wheels, two combination locks, and a removable shoulder strap.

Now let’s look at travel accessories. There are a lot of products available which may or may not provide the perfect combination of durability, storage space, and style. For this reason it makes perfect sense to go with the Club Glove Rolling Duffle II (http://www.golftravelbags.com/clubglove-rolling-duffle.htm). The rugged Rolling Duffle II has been built with a lifetime of travel in mind. It features two organizers, a retractable handle, and in-line skate wheels. The XXL size offers approximately 2,200 more cubic inches of storage space than the standard Rolling Duffle II.

New technology has recently made it possible to break down every aspect of your golf game into a science. Golf watch technology now allows you the ability to analyze your game through stats and graphs on your home PC. That’s why it only makes sense to consider it a valuable golf gift. One standard golf watch model is the Suunto g3, (http://www.suuntowatches.com/g3.htm). It calculates key statistics such as greens in regulation, sand saves, up and downs, drives on fairway, putting %, and penalties. The g3 also features graphic illustrations of result, handicap, and key statistics – all displayed by your PC with the free software provided by Suunto.

While the g3 is primarily a scorekeeper and stat reader, its big brother, the Suunto g9 (http://www.suuntowatches.com/g9.htm) truly takes the analysis of your golf game to the next level. With its built in GPS locator, golfers now have the ability to determine which club is ideal for their shot, as the g9 makes recommendations based on your distance from the pin. The g9 also hooks up easily to any PC, giving you graphical readouts from shot-to-shot. Either of these quality golf gifts can be purchased from SuuntoWatches.com (http://www.suuntowatches.com), an authorized Suunto dealer that sells every Suunto watch.

And have no fear of returns or exchanges. Both GolfTravelBags.com and SuuntoWatches.com offer an extended holiday returns and exchanges policy, giving you all the way until January 10th to make your return. So with all of that in mind, it should be a piece of cake to come through this holiday season with quality golf gifts that are guaranteed to impress.

Wagner’s 12 Volt Air, LLC, Announces Release of Their “Cold Air Anywhere” Universal 12, 24 or 36, 48 Volt Battery Powered Air Conditioners.

Wagner’s 12 volt air has completed production on the new “Cold Air Anywhere” air conditioning system, a universal r134a based air conditioner that is fully powered by batteries, charging systems or solar, in a matter of minutes.

Bunnell, FL (PRWEB) November 18, 2004-- Wagner’s 12 volt air has completed production on the new “Cold Air Anywhere” air conditioning system, a universal r134a based air conditioner that is fully powered by batteries, charging systems or solar, in a matter of minutes. Wagner’s “Cold Air Anywhere,” can lower and sustain the interior temperature of your passenger compartment, or mount on just about anything and let the powerful, efficient fans put the cold air where you need it.

The first of its kind “Cold Air Anywhere” is a Real air conditioner that runs on batteries. It is not a swamp cooler. (No ice needed). The split design keeps the hot side, outside, and the cold side on you. These systems were designed to mount on a variety of vehicles and equipment. Though small, this powerful unit provides well over 30 degrees difference between the inlet air temperature and the outlet air temperature, and forces the cold air where you need it.

“WOW!” was the consistent response heard from company CEOs, Purchasing Agents, and the public, as the Wagner’s premiered the “Cold Air Anywhere” unit on a golf cart at the 2004 PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando, Florida. At no time was a charger attached to the cart. The air conditioner ran from before opening to after closing, on the cart’s existing batteries. Many looked for the electrical cord, but none were to be found. Definitely the coolest place to be, the Wagner’s booth was a hot spot for many patrons.

This system has all the main components of a home air conditioner. It is built with higher efficiency and compact components. Fans have a unique look and perform to unexpected levels for their size. A seven foot flexible hose between the outside section and light weight, inside section, makes mounting options unlimited. Even the tree cutters on their high-lifts could be air conditioned all summer. People have suffered, but will sweat no more! Many starting and/or charging systems can run this air conditioner with no modifications, but if needed, modifications are simple and inexpensive.

Wagner’s “Cold Air Anywhere” is going to be an exciting new product to watch. It is adaptable to golf carts, tractors, construction equipment, boats, and forklifts - most anything. This unit requires no more than an automobile battery to provide air conditioning out at your camp site. Ask your local dealers, or checkout http://wagners12voltair.com.

Independent Film "Bobby Jones-Stroke of Genius" is Scheduled for DVD Release Nationwide November 30, 2004

The inspirational film about legendary golfer Bobby Jones is about to be released on DVD/video this month. The movie featuring "A-list" actors Jim Caviezel, Claire Forlani, Jeremy Northam, Malcom McDowell, and others is the story of the only golfer to win the Grand Slam of Golf tournaments in one year. Jones overcame emotional challenges, health problems and other great golfers in his quest for the four titles in a single year (a record that stands today).

Charlotte, NC (PRWEB) November 16, 2004 -- Rick Eldridge, President and CEO of the Film Foundry had worked on numerous major television and sports broadcasts. He has even enjoyed critical and financial success with an animated TV series. His first feature length movie was different than any of his previous creative projects.

"Though we used many talented folks from Hollywood and around the world, this project was initiated right here in Charlotte, NC. And even with the excellent team we assembled, it was still the most challenging thing I have ever done," said Eldridge.

The Independent Film "Bobby Jones-Stroke of Genius" featured an excellent management team, cast and crew. With Kim Dawson (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) as Producer and Rowdy Harrington (Roadhouse, I Witness) writing the script and directing, there was excellent experience at the helm.

An astounding cast was assembled for this one of a kind project. With only a modest $18 million-dollar budget, the film boasts Jim Caviezel (Jesus in Mel Gibson’s Passion of the Christ) who plays the adult Bobby Jones, and co-stars Claire Forlani (Meet Joe Black, The Rock) who portrays Bobby Jones' wife. Jeremy Northam (Gosford Park, Amistad) is the infamous golfer Walter Hagen and Malcolm McDowell (Clockwork Orange) plays Atlanta Journal writer O.B. Keeler who followed and wrote about much of Jones' career.

Many of the crew came directly from filming Mystic River with Cinematographer Tom Stern and they produced some absolutely magnificent footage at some of the world's best golf courses. Academy Award-winning composer James Horner (Titanic, A Beautiful Mind) created a moving soundtrack.

The movie, which won a Heartland Film Festival "Truly Moving Pictures" award last month, combines an inspirational life story with the backdrop of Golf.

Just prior to the theatrical run last April, Eldridge, Dawson and other key movie execs created the Bobby Jones Film Foundation and raised over a million dollars in charity by offering pre-release versions of the movie for fund raising events.

The DVD/videotape release of the film is scheduled for November 30, 2004. Sony's Columbia Tri-Star division is handling the distribution.

Win a Trip for Two to the 134th British Open at the Old Course of St. Andrews, July 12 - 18, 2005

ON THE SPOT~

Yes, Myrtle Beach is
backwards. Embrace it!

(Nov. 19, 2004) - Myrtle Beach is a backwards town. If it wasn't for golf, it would be Fort Wayne, Indiana with a beach.

When CATS at the Palace Theater is considered a major cultural event, the ancient Greeks aren't exactly worried about their legacy. (Finally having run out of tourists to keep the show alive on Broadway, CATS producers must have figured let's take it to our people. Hello Myrtle Beach!)

When a shooting range not only survives but thrives on the largest local highway, out grossing a nearby Planet Hollywood...wait, this actually may be a sign of superior intelligence.

Which is the point. There is nothing wrong with backwards. Not in the right circumstances. Yes, Myrtle Beach may sometimes make you feel like you drifted into the Kentucky mountains. So what. Embrace it. You came here to play golf not ruminate over life's mysteries in an overpriced sidewalk cafe. If you held the option of dining in a room of Renoirs, you'd be in Las Vegas...and you'd be paying $300 greens fees.

Instead you're in Myrtle Beach, the land of kitsch dolphin souvenirs, fast food heaven and some of the cheapest, high quality golf in the U.S. Rather than lamenting what is not here (a quality restaurant without a theme or a T-shirt stand?), it is time to discover the hidden treasures that are. On a recent trip to the Grand Strand, I ran into too many major city East Coast golfers whining how they miss the off-course pleasures of home.

With shooting ranges sometimes seeming like Starbucks on the Grand Strand, why not take your own turn firing a semiautomatic pistol? You're in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. What'd you expect?

Notice how the guys complaining are never from say...central Illinois. What are they going to miss? A 24-hour Steak 'n Shake?

The guys moaning are likely the same ones who never deviate from the tried and true Myrtle Beach golfer's itinerary. The one that everyone except maybe the ditziest of wives knows.

"No, the golfers are pretty much the same,'' Kristy McLaughlin said without hesitation when asked if anything's changed in her time tracking hackers' interests as sales manager at Courtyard By Marriott - Broadway At The Beach. "They golf during the day and go to the clubs at night."

No one needs to be told what the clubs are limited to in Myrtle Beach. Yet it turns out there are women on the Grand Strand you don't have to pay $20 to sit with. Really. They sometimes can be found at the most unlikeliest of places. Including a Catholic school-sponsored fundraiser that is actually one of the most blatant pick up scenes you will ever come across.

No kidding. Every fall, St. Andrew Catholic School runs a "Taste of the Town" event at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center that morphs into hookup central. First timers go in expecting a staid, stuffy competition between the top restaurants in the area, with senior citizens nibbling on the small taste portions. Instead, they get a loud, buzzing gymnasium setting with groups of women in low-cut blouses hanging out. Sometimes literally.

It turns out Myrtle Beach's nightlife scene involves much more than the strip clubs many golfers limit themselves too.At this year's "Taste of the Town," a woman lifted her long skirt up past her thigh as she danced to the music, next to her 2-year-old daughter and a host of suddenly friendly guys. The Catholic priests from St. Andrews weren't exactly reminding anyone of the reverend dad from Footloose. It was more of a pump up the volume vibe with few collars in sight.

"Our group plans our trip around this every year now,'' said Philadelphian Don Robinson, one of the golfers who has discovered Myrtle Beach's other side. "Are you kidding me? This is one the biggest meat markets around. Girls who wouldn't give me the time of day in Philly are all smiles here.

"And if you take a girl to Pizzeria Uno here, they think you're the biggest gentleman in the world. Back home that's getting me the cold shoulder. In Philly, I've got to drop $200 on a dinner date easy."

With that Robinson excused himself. A young woman waiting in line for the Hilton resort restaurant's first place scallops had caught his eye.

Still think Myrtle Beach is boring?

And "Taste of the Town" is not even the only convention center mingle special. It turns out Myrtle Beach's convention center

has something of a reputation. Many locals call it "the largest 19th hole in the world." When's the last time you heard that about a convention center? Most convention centers are filled with accountants or lawnmower salesmen. Myrtle Beach's is a party girl.

Of course, if you're looking for something a little more subdued, or easier on the marriage, there is always a shooting range. Sure, they have target ranges in Philadelphia, New York and Boston. But they definitely do not make them like this. Myrtle Beach's Indoor Shooting Range boasts a huge red facade that is almost impossible to miss traveling on Highway 17. Step inside and it feels like you've entered the Toys "R" Us of guns.

Osama bin Laden and Saddam Hussein targets are available!

OK, maybe there is something to going too far in embracing the backwards.

Still, stop moaning and start living Myrtle Beach style off the course. No, there is no world famous MoMA (Museum of Modern Art). There's not even a Pat's cheesesteaks. But if you're lucky, or not careful, you may just find a wife.

JT Kobelt -- a native of worldly Montreal -- decided to really experience the local Myrtle Beach culture early on in his regular golfing visits. He went where the locals drink, hit every hole-in-the-wall he could find. Before long, he had met the woman he would marry.

"There's just something about a Southern Belle,'' Kobelt said.

Soon, those regular visits turned into every other weekend visits. Now Kobelt works for Carolina Golf Travel setting up other golfers' Grand Strand trips.

Which brings up another cautionary disclaimer. Watch it. Get too carried away with this new knowledge and you too could find yourself moving into Myrtle Beach.

Backwards that.

Forget all you know;
just grip it and rip it

ORLANDO, Fla. (Oct. 27, 2004) - I have this theory about swinging a golf club.

Yeah, I know - me and six bazillion other yahoos

But, this is a simple theory, unlike all those six bazillion other simple theories.

I believe if you have a modicum of athletic ability, and don't have any serious debilitating injuries like missing at least two limbs and a cerebral cortex, and you are left alone on a driving range, you'll work it out.

If you have two hands, a spinal column and a nervous system, it will come to you. Eventually.

Wipe out all those magazine articles and tips from pros, cousins, friends and all those people who just seem to be full of advice, and just swing away. Let her rip. Don't worry about your grip, balance, alignment, rotation, swivel or swing plane

Just see how far and straight you can hit the ball. If you hit it short and to the right or left, don't do that again. If you hit it long and straight - DO THAT AGAIN!

Over time, your brain will get in touch with your body. Now you may have a grip that looks like you're choking a monkey and your backswing might bring Ben Hogan out of his grave, but who cares? You're splitting the fairway and your friends hate your guts. And what's better than that

I used to thing the grip wasn't that big a deal, that the teaching pros overrated it. I was wrong.

Here's why: I happened to be playing the best golf of my life for about a month-long stretch until I made the terrible mistake of taking a lesson. I didn't go looking for a lesson; it was sort of thrust on me, but that's another story.

In any case, the lesson was from one of the best: the David Leadbetter Academy at Championsgate. Leadbetter is considered one of the best in the world, and rightfully so.

This lesson came from one of his assistants, an extremely clever, thorough and patient young man. He studied my swing, and the first thing he noticed was my grip.

He changed it. He gave me a special Leadbetter club with knobs on it so you were forced to grip it the Leadbetter way. Yes, it felt unbelievably awkward, but on those few occasions I hit it correctly, the five-iron soared 180 yards, over the bunker, and dropped softly a few feet from the flag.

Then he videotaped my swing and we went back to the video room. There I was up on the big screen, in slow motion. He put me on a split screen with Tiger Woods, Ernie Els and Nick Price.

He talked earnestly about swing planes, drawing diagonal lines on top of Tiger's swing, and then mine. He talked about a lot of things, which all sounded great in theory. I thought the fact that I could understand what he was talking about would translate into me playing like Tiger, Ernie and Nick.

Then I went on the golf course and for the next fourdays played the worst golf of my life. Suddenly, I developed a slice.Suddenly, I was hitting it short. Suddenly, the fairway became a distant, unattainable dream.

I couldn't break 90.

But, this was Leadbetter, and I knew it had to be gold. So I stuck with the new grip until my fingers bled, literally.

The last straw came when I played a round with three decent golfers who should not have been out-driving me. But, they were - by about an average of 40 yards. I was starting to feel like I was playing for the pink team.

Still, I stuck it out - until No. 18. By then, I'd had enough; one can suffer only so much humiliation in a single lifetime. So I decided to go back to my old, absolutely incorrect grip. You guessed it - right down the middle of the fairway.

Granted, the lesson was only for a half day, and if Leadbetter had me for a week or so, I might have golfing buddies who hate me even more than they do now.

But, I don't think so. The point is, there are a million different ways to hit a golf ball straight and true, and the only person who can teach you how to do it is yourself. Ain't nobody else can climb inside your body and brain and swing it for you.
